We take this very seriously. You have the right to confidentiality from everyone within the practice. Indeed, all staff members have training on confidentiality and are bound by the Data Protection Act.
In the rare case when we need to divulge your confidential information, we will endeavour to discuss this with you first. We may have to breach your confidentiality when for your own safety, the safety of the public or if a court orders us to do so. These cases are very unusual and we will always try to act in your best interests at all times.
The practice actively engages in research, as we feel that it helps improve the care you ultimately receive. All our research has been approved by the Ethics Committee. The practice may provide the research organisation with annonomysed data relating the research. There would be no patient identifying information given.
